JOE'S STORY
We rescued Joe in 2002 when he was 2 years of age.
This picture was taken on the day I brought him home. He was 15 pounds under weight and a nervous wreck.
Joe was so timid, he wouldn't even walk on a leash around the block. Every noise would make him tremble and
jump. We knew we had our work cut out for us but had faith that an exceptional dog was hiding in there...
...3 months later and well into rehab. He looked like
a completely different dog. Showing more confidence and gaining some much needed weight. He was still afraid
of loud noises but he was getting better every day...
...he finally conquered his fear of noises by going
with us to our sons baseball games. With screaming kids, parents cheering and fans yelling it was a perfect environment
to work out his phobia.
Joe is a great companion, friend and guardian. He
is such a wonderful dog, we simply can't imagine life without him.
Today, Joe enjoys his senior years by relaxing at
the pond, having an occasional frisbee match with the sheep dogs or just warming the boards on our front porch.

Cyrano's Story
Cyrano was surrendered in 2007 to VCA Animal
Hospital for aggression. We decided to bring him here to see if he could be rehabilitated. After spending
some time with Cyrano we knew he was going to be a great family companion. After making the decision to adopt
him we went through his medical history and discovered he was never given heartworm prevention.
Dr. Newman ran a blood test and unfortunately Cyrano
was Heartworm positive.
Cyrano had to endure 4 months of treatment and strict
house/kennel confinement. His favorite past time is being outside and playing soccer so it was a sad
and difficult time for all of us. But now we are happy to say that Cyrano is cured of heartworm disease.
Although heartworm free he does have long term effects such as a chronic cough and enlarged heart but it doesn't slow him
down.
Today Cyrano doesn't know the meaning of WALK.
He celebrated Christmas by getting a brand new soccer ball and spends a lot of the day pushing it around
the yard. He is an absolute joy to have around.
PLEASE TALK TO YOUR VET ABOUT THE RISK OF HEARTWORM DISEASE IN YOUR AREA

Shakes' Story
This little guy was found wrapped in a towel outside
the Animal Hospital. The only thing he could move on his body were his eyes. Dr. Armitage decided to try some
antibiotics and see what happened. 24 hours later, he could turn his head and stand up. Although he wobbled and
staggered it was evident that the medicine was begining to work.
Dr. Armitage ran some bloodwork to look for a possible
cause but everything came back normal. A few more weeks of meds, R&R and getting his vaccines up to date we had
a brand new, healthy dog. It was assumed that the illness was caused by Tetanus however this was never confirmed.
Shakes was adopted by a wonderful family and
is now called "Norbit" He is living a life of luxury and getting spoiled rotten at his new home.
Thanks Dr. Armitage
